Introduction to Education ( Defination, Meaning, Types, Elements)


Introduction To Education

The word “Education” is derived from the Latin word Educare and Educere. The word Educare mean to nourish , to bring up and to raise while the word Educere mean to lead out and to draw out.

According to Plato, 

“ Education is the capacity to feel pain and pleasure at the right time.”

According to Aristotle

          Education is the creation of sound mind in a sound body.

According to Dewey

      “Education is the development of all those capacities in the individual which will enable him to control his environment and fulfill his responsibilities.”

 Types Of Education:

There are three types of Education

I. Formal Education

                                The Education that is planned to fulfill particular purpose in a specific period with the help of well defined curriculum  imported by qualified teacher observing strict discipline is called formal education

II. Informal Education

                                  It is natural process. A man learn from his home his friends and his society. Learning is life pong process. It is accidental no pre planned and it may be positive or negative.
III. Non Formal Education:
                                         It is mostly imported by correspondence to fulfill the needs of Identified group. It is organized and deliberate process have flexible rules of entry and exit. 

Elements Of Educational Process:

Aims

      aims are expected outcomes of educational process. Every educational process is organized to attain some objectives or goals. The aim of education is intellectual, physical, spiritual, social and moral development of an individual

Curriculum

         The pathway to achieve educational objectives is Curriculum.   Curriculum includes activities (curricular and co curricular) for the development of individual.

Pedagogy

       Pedagogy is concerned with teaching methods. Teaching method is way of presenting subject matter in the class. Different teaching methods used in the classes are lecture method, activity method, demonstration method, project method, Heuristic method and so on

Evaluation :

          Evaluation is the press of determining the value and worth of  any thing. In educational process we evaluate content teaching methods curriculum performance of students and teachers in terms of educational objectives.
